Everything you need to know about Subfertility

What is Subfertility?

A woman of reproductive age who has not conceived after 1 year of unprotected sex, in the absence of any known cause of infertility.

Investigations:

There are many tests to address subfertility, but the basic test consists of ovarian reserve testing, day 21 progesterone test, tubal patency test, and semen analysis.

Ovarian reserve tests consist of Day 2-5 hormonal test, checking antral follicles (which turns into egg-containing cells), and serum Anti Mullerian hormone test (AMH)

HyCoSY test is a non-invasive test to check for patency of the fallopian tubes. Laparoscopy and dye tests can also be done if it is performed for any other conditions like endometriosis.

Semen analysis is usually performed for males after 3 days of abstinence.

Medical Treatment

Ovulation inductions medications can be offered if the main cause for subfertility is ovulation.

Surgical Treatment
